My #LoveCuresAllHate journey started after the Paris attacks last November. I remember seeing all the horrifying footage and negativity posted on social media. Don’t get me wrong, the attacks were horrific, but all I wanted to do was stay off Facebook and Instagram. I’d wake up, scroll my feed and be instantly depressed by all the negativity going on in our world. I’d think to myself, “Is this really the world we live in? There has to be more!”
I thought about deleting my social media
Don’t freak out, I didn’t mean permanently, just the app so I wouldn’t be tempted to scroll. It really, and I mean really bothered me how many people said they were “praying for Paris.” Posting old photos of them in Paris to join the crowd of posts. I am a Christian, and I believe in the power of prayer. But I’m also a believer that if you’re not actively doing sh*t, nothing will get accomplished. By saying that I mean that I saw very little action and a lot of people treating this tragedy like a trend.
I got on the computer and started researching what I could actually do to help.
There were a TON of super easy things I could do, that took very little time out of my day but would make a big impact on the victims. So I sent a package of blankets, socks, and some slightly worn clothes. That’s it? That’s all I had to do to help?! Wow.
Then I got to thinking, instead of complaining about the negativity, why not change it; then came #LoveCuresAllHate. Meaning: If you love enough, it will cure the hate in this world.
I wanted to get out of my own comfort zone and actually see people for a human being, rather than “that lady standing behind me.”
Chances are she has a million problems, hurts for things lost, and smiles when she can. This woman isn’t just a body standing behind me in line. This woman could be stressed about something, scared of something, and maybe even happy about something. Bottom line is; she’s a real person with real problems.
We tend to forget that people are people and not bodies. We are so enthralled in our own busy lives that we don’t pay mind to other’s around us. So I set out on my mission to do 30 acts of kindness. If you follow me on Instagram (@KatelynnAnsari), you’ll know that there were a few times when I was so nervous to do something. I’m naturally pretty shy/content in my bubble so a lot of these acts were out of my comfort zone.
Currently I’m at act 27 of 30 right now but don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. This process has me completely addicted. I’ve seen the impact I’ve created in such a short period of time. I legit love when people email/text/comment/share their #LoveCuresAllHate stories with me. I’ve connected with people all over the world who have seen my story. It doesn’t take a lot of effort to change some one’s day.
I strongly urge everyone to look for ways to be a better person.
Help some one carry their groceries to their car, return their cart, or buy their coffee. It doesn’t have to be big but just DO SOMETHING!
